The great ballet returns to the stage of the Verdi theater in Trieste, from 14 to 19 May, with Giselle by Adam, a fairy tale with a dreamlike atmosphere, between love and death, on the libretto by the romantic theorist Gautier inspired by the German poet Heine.

The new production, by Sng Opera in Balet of Ljubljana, Verdi’s partner, led by artistic director Renato Zanella, was presented today in the theatre’s Ridotto.

Giselle is signed by the current director of the Paris Opera ballet, the Spaniard José Carlos Martinez. The costumes are by Iñaki Cobos Guerrero. The Belgian Ayrton Desimpelaere returns to the musical direction of the orchestra. On stage, the Sng Opera dance company in Balet. The role of Giselle goes to the star of the Marinsky-Kirov and Kiev National Opera Anastasia Matvienko, alternating with another well-known and appreciated name, Nina Noc, also present in other performances as Myrtha. The young Japanese Marin Ino closes the Giselle trio of the Trieste performance. The role of the male protagonist is played by Albrecht Kenta Yamamoto, Japanese, a cornerstone of Slovenian ballet since 2010, with him Yujin Muraishi and the young Italian Filippo Jorio. The lights are by Slovenian Andrej Hajdiniak.

The Artistic Director Renato Zanella explained that “the challenge of reproducing the masterpieces of romantic ballet in the development of dance today is an art in itself. In the version we have chosen, Josè Martinez takes up that fresh simplicity of the story, elevating it, thanks to a rigorous research into detail, to a masterpiece of that historical period”.
