Use of canine units and advanced technologies to ensure the safety of travellers

The supervisory work continues with determination extraordinary implemented by the Railway Police in the stations of Perugia and Foligno. This initiative is part of a broader safety program carried out by the Polfer Department of the Marche, Umbria and Abruzzo regions, with the aim of raising safety levels for railway passengers.

During operations checkthe agents were able to count on the assistance of the units dog lovers specialized in the detection of narcotic substances, examining travelers both in stations and on board trains. The agents used modern technological tools, including smartphones for immediate document checks and metal detectors for baggage inspection.

The intensification of controls aims not only to prevent crime petty crime such as thefts, robberies and drug dealing, but also to counteract potentially dangerous activities such as harassing begging and pickpocketing, especially when getting on and off trains.

The measures adopted also include the surveillance of railway infrastructures and sensitive targets, a practice made even more crucial by the current international context, essential to prevent vandalism, copper theft and damage.

In the last one weekthe effectiveness of these controls was demonstrated from the identification of 542 people and from supervising the arrival and departure of 12 trains. Furthermore, 41 patrols were carried out in the stations and 6 on board the trains, confirming the constant commitment of the police to protecting citizens.

This intensive activity also translated into an awareness campaign aimed at citizens on the behaviors to avoid in the railway sector, such as improperly crossing the tracks or not observance of safety standards, thus strengthening public awareness and prevention.
