Agri-food: supply chain is growing, Lombardy among the protagonists

Agri-food is the first manufacturing sector in Italy for added value generated, with over 66 billion, more than the production of machinery and equipment (43) and metal products (37). Compared to GDP, the 37 billion generated by agriculture and the 29 by food and beverages represent 3.8% of the total, more than Germany (2.6%) and the United Kingdom (2.1%), less than France (4, 5%) and Spain, the country with the highest incidence (5.2%).

These are some of the data anticipated today in the press conference presenting the 8th edition of the forum ‘The roadmap of the future for Food & beverage’ organized by The European House Ambrosetti, which will be held in Bormio (So) on the 7th and 8th June.

The meeting was attended by The European House Ambrosetti, together with the regional councilor for the mountains and local authorities, Valerio De Molli and Benedetta Brioschi; Giovanni Pomella, Lactalis Italia; Gianluca Giovannetti, Amadori group and Michel Beneventi, San Pellegrino group.

In 2022 the Lombardy agri-food supply chain reached a turnover of 48 billion, with an increase of 34% compared to 2015, confirming its leadership. With a turnover of 2.5 billion euros in certified productions in 2022, + 15% compared to 2021, the region also reaches the Italian record in exports: 10.4 billion euros in 2023, + 84% compared to 2015. The region is third in Italy for the number of certified productions, with 75 between PDO and PGI, and Mantua, Brescia, CremonaSondrio and Lodi among the top 20 in Italy for certified production value.
