in Brescia the gaze on the man of Gabriele Micalizzi

A look at the man and his works, in the depths of the conflicts of the last 15 years, wars but also disasters linked to the climate crisis. Fifty works, some unpublished, by Gabriele Micalizzi, a 40-year-old photojournalist from Milan. One of the most anticipated exhibitions of the Brescia Photo Festival.

A journey to the root of contradictions: militiamen praying in the desolate landscape of Derna (Libya) while bringing aid to flood victims. The disfigurement of the places and symbols of other people’s religions, from Ukraine to Israel to Iraq, contrasted with the hope of the faces fixed by the camera on the film. A reflection on analogue immanence in the turbulent era of the smartphone, social media and generative intelligence.

The culmination of Micalizzi’s art is the photographic fresco, designed for the fifteenth-century room next to the Last Supper. The shots become matter, incorporating themselves into the wall, a sign in an increasingly fluid and virtual history. The work will be donated to the Brescia Musei Foundation. The Legacy exhibition will be at the Santa Giulia Museum until September 1st.
