After the invectives, warnings and demonstrations in the streets against the demolition of the former Sarom towers in Ravenna, Our Italy points the finger at the Ravenna festival and maestro Riccardo Muti. The association underlines that he too is guilty of “conforming to silence” on the matter, while “numerous times he has made his voice heard on cultural issues of importance for our country”. And, continues the Ravenna section of Italia Nostra, “not even a single word from Cristina Mazzavillani Muti, who, in the past, had expressed herself clearly in favor of protection”. Hence the invitation to people from Ravenna not to participate in the Ravenna festival.

In recent weeks, the association argues, “a heartfelt request for help was addressed to them in the press”, given that the Hamon towers could have become an “ideal and futuristic venue for music and culture”. Instead “they were annihilated without any plausible reason”, with Eni “overriding every instrument of democratic governance of the territory and of debate, every request for rethinking and salvation for at least one of the two”. Hence the invitation to all citizens who “care about material cultural heritage to give a strong signal and to disdain participation in the new edition of the Ravenna Festival, supported as always by Eni funds”. Invitation also signed by the Ravennate Coordination “For the Climate-Out of the Fossil”, Power to the People Ravenna, Ravenna in Comune, Collettivo La Comune. Among other things, the day after tomorrow, Saturday 11 May, the opening evening of the event will be held at the Pala De André, with over 3,500 spectators, with the already sold out concert by maestro Muti and the Wiener Philharmoniker, the first of only three Italian stops on this tour and twelfth visit of the Viennese team to the city.
