From Rho to Turin, 225 electric buses arrive for public transport – Turin News

Arriving 225 electric buses for Turin and its province. It is the result of the agreement between Iveco bus and Gtt (Gruppo Torinese Trasporti) who have renewed a partnership that aims to introduce sustainable solutions for local public transport in the city of Turin, on the occasion of Nme – Next Mobility Exhibition, the international event biennial dedicated to solutions, technologies, means and policies for a people mobility system.

The vehicles are divided into 135 12-metre buses, 62 18-metre buses and 28 18-metre BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) buses. The latter are larger vehicles than the articulated buses traditional buses, capable of accommodating a greater number of people, with a bodywork that makes them more similar to trams, in-line charging systems and dedicated lanes: they will be used on the new route of line 2. The initiative envisages that the production of buses, with the battery packs produced in Turin, is completed in the new Iveco bus plant in Foggia.

«With the introduction of 225 new buses over the next few years, GTT is preparing the ground for a radical transformation in public transport in Turin. This significant fleet upgrade represents much more than a simple technological replacement of combustion vehicles with electric ones, in fact it marks the first step towards a broader vision of sustainable urban mobility – he underlined Serena Lancione, CEO of GTT -. The transition to electric public transport requires a systemic perspective. Electric buses are not simple vehicles, but components of an integrated system that also includes charging infrastructure and efficient resource management. It is this integration that will allow us to guarantee a sustainable and innovative future for our city”.
