CATANZARO An operation that marks, for the first time, the precise desire on the part of the municipal administration to bring order to the advertising system sector and prevent and combat the phenomenon of illegal construction. The local police, building police section, has completed a total census of the artefacts intended for large-scale advertising activities. The outcome of the audit, carried out more than ten years after the previous one, revealed that there were over 150 structures currently existing used by sector agencies. Subsequent checks revealed that most of the systems were installed, on public or private land, without a valid authorization, despite the provisions of the urban planning regulations and the provisions of the Highway Code. Sanctions worth 430 euros were therefore notified to the responsible parties, for approximately one hundred of the artefacts in question. “The Administration had never gone so far in repressing the frequent cases of illegal installation of advertising systems present throughout the city. It is another example of that revolution of normality in which, amidst many difficulties, we strongly believe and which cannot fail to start from concrete actions useful for restoring legality”. This is the comment of the mayor Nicola Fiorita. “This complex operation is the first step on a path which, in the long term, will allow us to put the relevant service out to tender for the first time, also verify the regular payment of taxes on advertising and collect all the sums foreseen for the punctual use of the systems. Results and objectives for which the commitment, for each reference area, of the councilors Antonio Borelli, Marinella Giordano and Giusy Iemma has been and will be fundamental. This is a sector that, for too many years, has not received proper attention. Now the Administration can no longer afford to look the other way and deprive itself of the income deriving from this activity, it is essential to enforce the provisions and constraints in force”.
