Florence, illegal work at the San Lorenzo market, 15 stalls and shops closed

Blitz in Florence against illegal and irregular work, in the centuries-old street market of San Lorenzo – the Medici district -, by the Labor inspectors who have as many as 15 commercial business activities were suspended after checking 18 companies, including 13 stalls and five shops. The operation began at dawn when the so-called ‘barrocci’, stalls on wheels, now almost all destined to sell leather goods to tourists, arrived from the garages and were positioned in the street.

14 illegal workers were discovered, all non-EU citizens, of which three without any residence permit in Italy, while checks are underway on five others to verify whether they are suitable to carry out work. The 15 suspension measures were taken in most cases for undeclared work exceeding 10% of the workforce and in some cases also due to the failure to adopt the DVR (risk assessment document).

In order to reopen their businesses, employers must regularize workers in all respects provided for by the regulations. The Labor Inspectorate intervened with 22 people (19 inspectors from the Florence Inspectorate and three carabinieri from the detached unit). They concentrated their attention on the streets adjacent to the general market.
