“The sound of stones”, itinerary from Gargano to Salento

San Giovanni Rotondo. The project “THE SOUND OF STONE – Concert itinerary from the Gargano to Salento” organized by the Camerata Musicale Barese and co-financed by the Puglia Foundation continues with its second appointment in San Giovanni Rotondo (FG). Saturday 11 May at 8pm, at the Church of
Sant’Onofrio, the protagonists of the concert will be the harpist Teresa Viola and the organist Stefano Perrotta. Both, with a solid artistic education in Germany, Holland and Norway, are winners of prestigious international competitions and perform regularly both as soloists and with orchestras, in the most important festivals and events in Italy and abroad. The concert programme, in addition to enormous composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Händel, who have marked the history of music and influenced all subsequent production, presents in the lineup a fantasy for organ and harp by Rachel Laurin, a Canadian composer who died prematurely, of which the work testifies to the commitment to contemporary organ production.

A small digression on the city that will host the concert, San Giovanni Rotondo, is in order. Famous for being the home of the Sanctuary of Padre Pio, one of the most
important Catholic pilgrimage places in the world, where thousands of faithful go every year to venerate Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, also offers a suggestive atmosphere with its cobbled streets, churches and places linked to the life of Padre Pio. Immersed in an atmosphere of sacredness and history, the Church of Sant’Onofrio
it therefore stands as a monument of faith and architectural beauty, which fascinates and inspires visitors, with its medieval frescoes and its majestic
columns that testify to centuries of devotion and contemplation.

At the center of the magnificence of this church, the organ, the protagonist of this concert, a marvel of musical engineering, built in 1998 by the Francesco Zanin company of Codroipo, a tangible testimony of the interconnection between music, contemporaneity and spirituality.

The entrance for all those who wish to take part in this sonic intertwining in which the two instruments with their distinctive timbre will blend harmoniously, is
free. The harp, with its thin strings and its ability to produce ethereal and enveloping sounds, and the organ, majestic and powerful, capable of filling the space with
majestic and profound notes promise to make the immersive experience of this appointment unique.

The entire project is coordinated by Maestro Francesco Di Lernia, researcher, concert performer and organ professor on behalf of the Camerata Musicale Barese, a historic institution of our Region and the soul of the initiative.
