Among the activities of the POF of the Liceo Statale “G. Lombardo Radice”, for the second consecutive year the project “From the Wind to the Sea” was included, curated by prof. Rocco De Luca and dedicated to twenty young people in the two-year course which aims to bring students closer to the sea, an element that is part of our natural habitat, seen not only as a source of leisure and carefreeness in the summer period, but also as a place of “Adventure” related to managing the wind with sails and rudder and used as a “Road” to move from one place to another.
This year too, the course makes use of the kind collaboration of the “Tamata” Sailing Club, which has made its premises available to the school’s students where the theoretical lessons will be held, held by qualified members of the club, regarding the nomenclature of the various parts of a sailing boat, the Compass Rose, the speeds, the maneuvers to be performed while sailing, the most commonly used knots. For the practice lessons, the members themselves will make their boats available on which the children will be able to implement what they have learned in the previous lessons and become familiar with managing a sailing boat, from using the rudder to adjusting the sails. until you get to the maneuvers to be carried out during navigation. Elements regarding the protection of the marine environment will be included and during navigation some moments will be dedicated to the collection of plastic at sea.
The course also includes a visit to a shipyard, during which the children will be able to see the boats in their entirety and to the “Sonica Sails” sail loft where they will be able to understand all the phases of building a sail, from design to the finished product
