“We need an extraordinary plan for the Pavia area”

PROVINCE OF PAVIA – Staff numbers reduced to the bone and no new agents arriving. This is what the CGIL states in denouncing the serious shortage of police forces in the Pavia area. The situation, already critical at a national level, is further worsening in our province, where, in the face of retirements and transfers, the hirings planned for 2024 amount to only three units.

Unacceptablehe thunders Ferdinando Ruggieroprovincial secretary of Silp CGIL, the most representative police union in Lombardy. “The safety of citizens cannot be taken lightly. It is not possible to talk about strengthening when, in fact, we are witnessing an impoverishment of the forces in the field.”

The consequences of this staff shortage are being felt on all fronts. “From the police station to the police stations, up to the specialties. There is a lack of agents necessary to monitor the territory and prevent crimes. A problem that adds to the high average age of the staff and the structural and logistical deficiencies”underlines the secretary.

Despite the promises, the Government “it would not be allocating adequate resources for the security sector”, as reported by Silp. In practice, no new extraordinary agents, no investments, no renewal of the employment contract for over 850 days. “All this inevitably has repercussions on the morale and well-being of staff, with negative effects also on the quality of the service offered to citizens”, concludes Ruggiero.

The CGIL calls for immediate intervention from the Government to reverse this trend. An extraordinary hiring plan is needed, investments in infrastructure and means, and a renewal of the employment contract that protects workers’ rights
