A technical table for the dynamic crossing of the Strait: the agreement for the use of Atam car sharing in Villa San Giovanni presented in Reggio.


REGGIO CALABRIA – The meeting of the technical table on dynamic crossing of the Strait took place at Palazzo Alvaro. Established by the Ministry of Infrastructure, its theme was: “bringing order to the flows and costs of transport between Reggio and Messina”. Coordinated by Admiral Nunzio Martello of the general command of the Port Authority Corps, the working group brings together the highest institutional authorities, bodies and transport companies operating at a local, regional and national level between the two shores.

Present at the meeting were: the deputy mayor of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, Carmelo Versace, Patrizia Scarchilli and Francesca Aielli of the Ministry for Infrastructure. And still there they were: the mayor of Villa San Giovanni, Giusy Caminiti, Admiral Antonio Ranieri, commissioner of the Strait Port Authority. The commander of the Port Authority of Messina, Francesco Terranova. Also present were: Marisa Sangiovanni for RFI, Nunzio Formica for Liberty lines, Giuseppe Marchetti of Caronte&Tourist, Giuseppe Basile and Viviana Fedele for Atam, Massimo Di Gangi and Cinzia Ingratoci Scorciapino of the University of Messina.

The meeting served to take stock of the logistics and transport organization of connections between Reggio and Messina and vice versa, also in consideration of the expansion of the flight offer which is affecting the “Tito Minniti” Strait airport of Reggio Calabria.

On this occasion, the agreement between “Caronte&Tourist” and Atam was presented, which has already made available to users the possibility of using the car sharing service in the port area of ​​Villa San Giovanni.

The update on the expansion projects and modernization works affecting the Villa San Giovanni and Messina railway stations has arrived from RFI.

During the meeting there was active collaboration between those present to structure. A questionnaire will be given to be submitted to travelers and which can allow the qualitative flow of traffic to be investigated. A way to understand the habits and needs of users so as to modulate all future choices.

From the table coordinated by Admiral Martello, therefore, the no longer postponable need to establish the Integrated Area of ​​the Straits emerged. A necessity due to the great strides made by the Metropolitan Cities of Reggio Calabria and Messina. This is pending the respective rulings from the Calabria Region and the Sicily Region.
