Olbia. Goodbye to the very traditional broken plate for the bride and groom.

On the occasion of wedding celebrations, it is a centuries-old custom to celebrate the event with the breaking plates at the moment of the bride and groom’s exit from the town hall or from the sacred places of celebration. However, this traditional practice, although rich in symbolic meaning, would present risks to public safety and urban decorum.

The municipal administration, in view of the potential dangers deriving from broken dishes, today issued a union ordinance with the aim of guaranteeing the safety of citizens and preserving the aesthetic appearance of the city.

According to the ordinance, the problem would become particularly relevant in the summer months, when children and adults often wear sandals or light shoes, increasing the risk of injuries caused by shards of dishes abandoned in public streets after the celebrations. In addition to the dangers to public safety, the abandonment of the shards of dishes would represent a serious damage to the urban decor and the image of the city, damaging the aesthetic appearance and the general perception of the territory.

Consequently, in order to protect public safety, preserve the physical integrity of people and maintain the urban decorthe municipal administration has imposed an absolute ban on breaking plates during wedding functions in the municipal area.

This ordinance, issued in accordance with articles 50 and 54 of the Consolidated Law on Local Authorities, comes into force immediately throughout the entire municipal territory, with the aim of guaranteeing a safe and welcoming environment for all citizens and visitors of Olbia.

The administration therefore invites all citizens and operators in the wedding sector to respect this provision in order to contribute to the safety and decorum of our city.
