LECCE – “Of course!”, this is how Nikola Krstović responds when asked if he wants to stay in Lecce next year too: “Lecce is my team” says the striker, who declares he wants to stay in the Giallorossi.
Krstovic made a convincing start, which then faded for a couple of months, before returning to scoring and having a setback again. An attacker lacks goals like air, but it must be said that the player on the pitch spent a lot on the team, even in the back, often playing with his back to goal.
With the inclusion of Piccoli, a teammate and therefore with the transition from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 with the arrival of Mister Gotti, Krstovic found more space for goals, the two help each other and they exchange roles. Except that Piccoli won’t be there for Udinese (he’s disqualified), it remains to be seen whether the coach will opt to adapt an attacker (Sansone or Pierotti) to complete the offensive tandem or whether he will return to a formation that will see Krstovic as the sole striker :
“I like playing with a striker because it’s difficult to play with your back to goal; For this reason I would prefer to play with another teammate and not be deployed as a lone striker.”
Even if the player then, speaking about the difference in performance with the arrival of Gotti, points out:
“Since my arrival I have always trained well, I trained for the team and I always thought about scoring goals. For me it’s not a problem in any way the coach wants me to play. I feel good playing with a striker next to me, but I’m also fine alone.”
Mister Gotti’s first day of training represented a watershed moment for Lecce. The coach has already declared that he was just himself and that he made his skills, his knowledge and his way of acting available to the players: calm, understanding, paternal:
When he met me he told me to be free, play as I know how and to give my best. Just as we did at the start of the championship, then there was a stop. Then Mister Gotti gave us new energy and we are making the most of it.”
If Inter or Milan win on Sunday, Lecce will arithmetically be safe, but this will not affect the Giallorossi’s performance, according to the attacker:
If salvation comes on Sunday, ok, but we will play to win anyway. I did seven goals, but two were taken away from me (Salernitana and Frosinone), so that’s nine. But I set out to get to ten, so I would like to get to thirteen.”
There are two days left until the end of the championship, then we’ll talk about the future… Krstovic has no doubts
”Of course I want to stay! Lecce is my team.”
