Since the early hours of this morning Venice is “armoured” due to the security measures taken for the G7 Summit on Justice, scheduled today and tomorrow in the historic center of the lagoon, at the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista. Long queues and severe slowdowns formed at the beginning of the Ponte della Libertà, which connects Venice to the mainland, due to police checks on incoming vehicles, which were slowed down and, if necessary, even stopped.
The local police issuedor two ordinances to limit traffic to pedestrians and boats to protect traffic, temporarily closing some sections and establishing one-way streets, especially in the area of Sant’Agostino and San Giacomo dall’Orio, the fields closest to the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista, where the G7 is held.
Door-to-door waste collection has also been limited to the early hours of the morning. Hundreds of police officers ensure the sessions take place, scheduled from 2.00pm today until 2.00pm tomorrow.
