The workers of Euro Promos, a company that contracts the cleaning service in municipal nursery schools, with reception and assistance duties, went on strike this morning. 40 workers, many of whom were present this morning in front of the municipal building together with the USB union. The political request, in the first instance, is that the institution internalize the service, but – a more practicable option – that in the next contractual renewal in December, the minimum wage be equivalent to that of the lowest level municipal employees.
The contract applied to these workers provides for a basic wage of 7.65 euros per hour, which is not paid during school closures and figurative contributions for pensons purposes are not recognized. To this, states Luca Erfini of the USB union, we add that “among the various tasks that are requested of the company there are also extra services such as moving furniture and extraordinary cleaning; the company declared that it has dedicated staff, but in three years of contracting no one has ever seen the suitable workers and therefore the women take on jobs such as porterage, moving furniture and working at heights which involve considerable safety measures”.
All according to the contractual rules of the multi-service contract, which however is one of the poorest applied in Italy, which does not “guarantee an adequate level of income, in defiance of the Constitution and not to mention that the part-time work of these women is involuntary, practically imposed by the ‘agency”.
Follow the mobilization of the workers, including Celestina Villa, in the past councilor in the municipality who knows well the mechanisms that regulate contracts and the possibilities that the local authority can have in drawing up the tender specifications. “The fact – he states regarding women’s work – that in their case the notional pension contributions are not recognized is further penalizing these workers, who will have to work even longer, in spite of the protection of women and the recognition of the work of care that in this society women have always done”. gbiagi
