LUCCA – Many requests from surgical centers for the new product “OmogeM”, a step towards the future: the S.Luca Hospital in Lucca is among the very first centers in Italy to distribute the amniotic membrane in this new form
OmogeM, the new product distributed from July 2023 by the “Piero Perelli” Cornea Conservation Center of Lucca, has received great appreciation and positive feedback from surgeons in Tuscany and beyond.
This is the amniotic membrane, obtained from the placenta from a planned cesarean section, but made available in a convenient vial. In the first 4 months of 2024 alone, the Lucca Bank, which is based at the “San Luca” hospital, distributed 160 bottles of OmogeM to public facilities in the Tuscany region.
With this new appearance – instead of in the form of fragments on a solid support – the tissue is in fact sent to professionals who request it for treatments. OmogeM is produced in a controlled particle and microbiological contamination environment, sterilely packaged in 5 ml dropper bottles and frozen at -80°C. The Cornea Bank of Lucca was among the very first centers in Italy to distribute the amniotic membrane in this new form, always to be used according to the specialists’ indications, but taking advantage of the possibility of administering this tissue to the patient directly at home, without need for hospitalization.
A step towards the future – underlines the ASL Toscana Nord-Ovest with a view to local healthcare, increasingly closer to the needs of citizens.
