Celebration of International Nurses Day in Reggio Calabria.

On May 12, the Order of Nursing Professions (OPI) of Reggio Calabria joins the global celebration of International Nurses Day, a significant date that commemorates the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing sciences.

This day, promoted by the International Council of Nurses, represents an opportunity to honor the contributions of nurses around the world and recognize their commitment to the health and well-being of society.

In Italy, the National Federation of Nursing Professions (FNOPI) coordinates initiatives to celebrate this day, highlighting the importance of the nursing profession and promoting greater collaboration with citizens to guarantee a more inclusive healthcare system centered on people’s needs.

This year, the OPI of Reggio Calabria, led by the President Dr. Pasquale Zito organized a special event involving the “Territorial Council” and the “Training and Updating Commission” of the Order, together with the Help social promotion association. The stand will be located on the Lungomare Falcomatà, near the Lido Station, from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

Nurses will offer free services, including checks of vital signs such as blood pressure and blood sugar. Furthermore, under the supervision of the SIMEUP Training Center, the correct intervention in the event of suffocation by a foreign body in children and adults will be demonstrated, as well as the risks linked to Shaken Baby Syndrome and the related preventive measures.

During the event, information material on correct lifestyles and prevention of common pathologies will be distributed. Information will also be provided on the training and role of the nurse, both in studies and in the field, including recent developments in the profession.

This day is an opportunity for the community to come together, share knowledge and deepen their understanding of the importance of the nurse’s role in providing quality care and support to all people, at every stage of life.
