L’AQUILA – The hearing in which the nurse is accused is set for 15 May 2024 before the Criminal Court of L’Aquila Piero Ciamacco accused by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of L’Aquila, with suspicions yet to be proven, of having negligently caused the death of a young woman, hospitalized for COVID in the intensive care unit of the San Salvatore hospital, on 3 November 2020, through alleged incompetence.

On this occasion, six witnesses for the prosecution will be examined, including the two offended people, children of the victim, already constituted as civil parties during the preliminary hearing with the patronage of the lawyer. Carlotta Ludovici of the Forum of L’Aquila. Please note that the two descendants of the deceased woman have requested compensation for all damages suffered and to be suffered due to the sudden death of their parent, caused by the responsibility of others, quantified in the prudential and overall sum of €. 700,000.00 approximately.

In support of the accusatory theory, the report drawn up by the medical expert panel appointed by the Prosecutor’s Office, made up of two specialized doctors from Rome, who will be called upon to illustrate the expert report before the Judge, who stated with absolute certainty that the death of the patient could have been avoided by the intervention within 3 – 5 minutes of an anesthesiologist – resuscitator who would have correctly repositioned the tracheal cannula and/or would have intubated the patient via the oral – tracheal route.

They also stated that closing the door and opening it after too long a period of time (about 15 minutes) caused the patient’s death. The nurse, accused of the crime of manslaughter in the exercise of the healthcare profession, is accused of multiple aspects of responsibility on the basis of the aforementioned medical-legal report.

Therefore, also and above all the two medical experts will be heard by the criminal judge during the trial, scheduled in several hearings, pending the presence of around 30 witnesses, indicated by the Prosecutor’s Office and the defence, to be heard in relation to the facts that occurred to the detriment of the poor patient , who died at the hands of others.
