The 36th edition of the Book Fair was inaugurated, in the presence of the Mayor of Turin and the ministers Valditara and Sangiuliano. A show that projects Turin among the cultural capitals of Europe.
Book Fair, an extraordinary occasion
Opening the dance for the inauguration of the 2024 Salone is the Mayor of Turin Stefano Lo Russo, who wanted to underline the importance of this event for the city of Turin: “The most important element of this event, which is a place for comparing ideas, is the positivity that it releases despite the difficulties we find in the world. This Salon does not depend on politics, it is a heritage of the city of Turin. Being an integral part of the city is the most important aspect of this cultural event. Regardless of the political management of the city and the Region”.
The Minister of Education Valditara took the floor and focused on the importance of the book: “the book goes beyond the physical object that contains the words. The book is the origin of the transformation of society, all the great changes, especially the scientific ones, have passed through the book. The book makes it necessary to stop and read and reread and from here imagination and creativity develop. This is why school is important. The book helps the child develop four senses (all except taste) including smell and hearing when turning the page. The book is important to stop the impact of cell phones on children and of technology that can be harmful to them. Therefore the book will be the indispensable center of our school.”
Also present was Minister Sangiuliano, who underlined the value of culture: “I hope that this exhibition is an opportunity to bring together different opinions. I want to dedicate this hall to Piero Gobetti, who suffered the blows of fascism, supported to the end by Prezzolini, author of the conservatory’s manifesto, this to underline that culture when it is high has no political colour.”
Annalena Benini, the director of this edition, closes the inauguration: “Five days of celebration and meetings. A salon that brings culture alive.”
