GUBBIO – Elimination (hot) rhymes with revolution (end of a cycle) and is what remains of the playoff adventure that vanished in the first round, as the only surprise given that in all the other matches the field factor prevailed with the best placing in the rankings. Gubbio ended the play-offs badly after losing to Rimini at the Barbetti last Tuesday, with Cernigoi’s first league goal late after switching to a five-man defense (criticised for a large part of the season) and Greco’s blunder, preferred among widespread perplexity to Vettorel.
President Sauro Notari was disappointed and faces a huge disappointment that will lead him to make probably disruptive choices. There could be a change of course on the two key roles, even if both sporting director Davide Mignemi and coach Piero Braglia also have contracts for next season.
Mignemi met with the Ancona management, interested in entrusting him with the post-Micciola role, but there is also the Catania track, which is his home, which will enter the playoffs as winners of the Serie C Italian Cup after closing the regular season in thirteenth place.
There is strong attention on Braglia: Livorno wants him in Serie D (he excludes this possibility for now), but there is also Triestina and above all newly promoted Pianese after winning group E of D (he would return home). The first names are circulating for the succession: Andrea Grammatica of Ravenna (Serie D), linked to the general director Giuseppe Pannacci having completed the sporting director course together, and on the bench Emiliano Bigica of Sassuolo Primavera, Enrico Barilari of Sestri Levante and Max Canzi of Pontedera.
Yesterday (Wednesday 8 May) Mignemi and Braglia met Notari to get over the disappointment of the elimination together. There was no talk of the future, now as usual the president dedicates himself completely to the Eugubine tradition of the Festa dei Ceri which he lives with particular involvement. Certain discussions will be resumed at the end of the month even if the entourage is already moving to propose solutions aimed after Braglia and Mignemi.
