Noisy protest against the minister of the family Eugenia Roccella to the General States of Birth. As soon as Roccella went on stage, a group of male and female students stood up with a series of signs spelling out the words: “I decide about my body”. From the stage the minister said: “You are right, today you don’t decide.” The boys and girls responded by shouting: “Shame.”
The organizer, Gigi De Palo, invited a representative of the group to speak on stage. While the girl read a statement, some of the event participants in the room shouted: “Go away, get out, go away.”
“We decide about our bodies. The current government decides to convene this conference while none of the government, in a year, has had answers to our requests. We don’t fit the God-father-family triad”, said the young woman. De Palo, however, specified that “the event is convened by a Foundation and not by the government”. When the girl finished reading the flyer and went down to the stage, Minister Roccella tried to deliver her speech again but at that point the “shame, shame” of the young people resumed. The minister then left.
Roccella: “This is censorship, nothing but fascism”
“I am sure that the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein, the entire left, the intellectuals – Antonio Scurati, Roberto Saviano, Nicola Lagioia, Chiara Valerio, etc. -, the ‘big press’ and the ‘militant press’ that we have seen in these hours mobilized in other locations, will have unequivocal words of solidarity towards me – Roccella writes on Facebook – after the act of censorship which this morning prevented me from speaking at the States General, organized by the birth rate foundation to carry out my speech and also to respond to the protestors-censors and speak with them. I am sure that the champions of freedom and democracy will not miss this opportunity to demonstrate that the evocation of fascism that does not exist, which we have witnessed in recent weeks, it wasn’t just a political drama ready to vanish in the face of real censorship.”
