“At this moment we need to talk about a ceasefire, about a cessation of hostilities. Talking about Peace now makes no sense. It’s out of reality“. These are the words, reported by ANSA, of the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa who arrived in Bari for the feast of Saint Nicholas. The high prelate specified to reporters that, according to his vision, in the Middle East ” peace will take a long time, the wounds will need to be healed, there is a lot of work to be done.”
This morning the cardinal participated in a meeting in the Basilica of Santa Fara, focused on the hardships that the Holy Land is experiencing in this time of war.
“Bari is a city open to the East and reminds us that in this terrible war, in this situation of great division, of great lacerations, we must work to build relationships – said Pizzaballa – This is not the time to erect barriers, but to break down barriers“.
The Patriarch of Jerusalem expressed his opinion on the end of hostilities in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: “You have to be very real because it won’t be easy“. Finally he expressed a warning: “Don’t confuse peace with victory“.
At 6 pm, in the Pontifical Basilica of San Nicola, Cardinal Pizzaballa will preside over the solemn Eucharistic Concelebration, in the presence of the Archbishop of Bari-Bitonto Monsignor Giuseppe Satriano, the bishops of the dioceses of Puglia and the Prior of the Basilica Giovanni Dtante. At the end of the celebration, the Holy Manna will be collected.
