“Viterbo and Tuscia are development models, but it is unacceptable to have to host 70% of the photovoltaic and wind power plants in the entire Lazio”

News – The mayor Chiara Frontini at the Anci conference in Rimini, on the theme The MediaAree project

Viterbo – We receive and publish – Viterbo and Tuscia as a development model for all the capital cities of Italy, even if it is not acceptable to have to host 70% of the photovoltaic and wind power plants in the entire Lazio. This, in a few words, is the fulcrum of Mayor Chiara Frontini’s speech at the Anci conference yesterday 8 May in Rimini, on the topic The MediaAree project, the role of provincial capitals in the country system, comparing mayors. The mayors of Alessandria, Ascoli Piceno, Teramo and Macerata also took part in the debate.

Mayor Frontini addressed the topic starting from the relationship between Viterbo and Rome. “The region has obvious limits in managing relations between Rome and the other regional capitals. Rome drains most of the resources compared to the other four provinces in the region, both in terms of mobility and large infrastructures, up to and including film commissions. We are all called to reinvent ourselves and transform problems into opportunities – continued Frontini – and we are doing so with determination and vision.

In this phase, our commitment is to work to enhance the attractive elements of the capital municipalities, especially when there is a great proximity to Rome, as in the case of Viterbo. We are firmly focusing on the historic center to make it more and more a privileged residential element, also thanks to a narrative that conveys its real dimension, which is that of a place of particular beauty and liveability not far from Rome, even if it seems light years away from the capital. In this sense we are addressing that audience of people who can choose to come and stay in a city like Viterbo characterized by a high quality of life, from digital nomads to pensioners. There is certainly room for improvement on the transport front, but today the great opportunity is linked to the growing importance of those values that go beyond the mainstream economic dimension, such as quality of life, ethical consumption, sustainability – he continued the mayor -; we are faced with this new frontier of development which passes through environmental sustainability especially in places where there are universities that can certify these processes and provide skills.

From this point of view, however, we cannot fail to notice that in Tuscia, a territory with enormous tourist and landscape value and with quality zero-kilometre agriculture, there are as many as 70% of all the renewable energy systems of photovoltaic and wind power in Lazio. This situation is incomprehensible from the point of view of the development of individual territories and we know well how local authorities do not have the possibility of counteracting these decisions which are imposed from above, as the competence over these strategic plants considered to be of national importance belongs to the Government . AND However, it is important to network among us mayors of the places involved to protect the interests of our communities – added Mayor Frontini -.

Another element of competitiveness compared to large cities is represented by the possibility of promoting slow tourism for those territories that host religious routes as happens to us with the Francigena, also looking to next year’s Jubilee. This is a tourism model that represents a dichotomy compared to those who have followed different and traditional paths – concluded Chiara Frontini -. The medium-sized Italian municipalities have the great opportunity to carve out a role of enormous importance in all these areas”.
