Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a pathology that is still little known, both by the population and by healthcare personnel; which leads to difficulties in diagnosis, treatment and taking care of the patient who often feels alone in dealing with the disease.
It affects 2-3% of the Italian population, at any age but more frequently in women of working age. It can be isolated or concomitant with other rheumatological, immune-mediated or other pathologies, determining an important impact on the patient’s quality of life as well as a significant socio-economic impact.

In the most severe cases there is a need for a multidisciplinary approach that aims to treat not the single symptom but synergistically the multiplicity of symptoms presented by the patients.
For this reason, the San Matteo Polyclinic has been recognized by the Lombardy Region as one of the reference centers of the recent regional healthcare network, due to the presence of a specialist multidisciplinary team coordinated by Francesca Bobbio Pallavicini, medical director of the complex Rheumatology structure, directed by Professor Carlomaurizio Monteccucco.
