Five estates and an ambitious goal, to tell the story of Italy’s wine through its excellence. The Piccini 1882 group launches the Generazione Vigneti project in 2023 to link the estates scattered across the territory with the same common thread, “one vine – one territory”, an axiom of the mission aimed at enhancing the wine-terroir bond in each company through a eco-sustainable production approach that starts with organically grown vineyards. Alongside the Sicilian estates managed by his sisters Benedetta and Ginevra, Michelangelo Piccini is at the helm of the Tuscan estates Fattoria di Valiano and Tenuta Moraia. The latter, in the heart of the Maremma, extends over 160 hectares of which 60 are cultivated with the classic vines of the area, Sangiovese and Vermentino, as well as international varieties, including Cabernet, Syrah and Chardonnay. The company’s wines have an immediate style that combines the accents of the Maremma terroir, the “wild frontier” of the region, and the elegant depth of the great wines of the Tuscan coast.
Result of quality viticulture and vinification carried out by the oenologist Pasquale Presutto, among the wines of the estate “Il Vanesio” Rosato Maremma Toscana DOC 2023 stands out especially in this spring season, composed, as per Maremma tradition, of Sangiovese grapes (80%) and Syrah (20%) – grown at 100 m above sea level on a clayey soil rich in sedimentary rocks facing south-east. It is aged on the yeasts for 3 months, undergoing frequent batonnage.
The pale pink color heralds the sweet aromas of red fruit but also of delicate spring petals; on the palate it is soft but supported by a good acidic note which connects with an idea of fruit in a fruit salad; it then opens in the mouth with nuances of orange peel and fresh flowers, resulting lively despite its immediate pleasantness to drink.
