A protest demonstration was organized for Pati, a dog brutally killed in Catanzaro

The protest demonstration called by Enrico Rizzi, animal rights activist, following the brutal killing of Pati, the neighborhood dog, will take place on Saturday 11 May at 12.00 in Signorello in Catanzaro.
“I read with disgust and anger what happened to Pati – declared Enrico Rizzi – Three unspeakable individuals even went as far as amputating his tail and tearing off his testicles before causing his death. However, we must be clear with those who, especially in the animal rights sector, continue to make proclamations of immediate and severe application of the law, that the latter is of little or no use. We immediately need a new one made perhaps by people different from those of the previous failure”. Rizzi is referring to law 189 of 2004 desired by the then Berlusconi government and hailed as those that would have sent to prison those who mistreated or killed animals. “Let it be known that this is not the case – explained Rizzi – The maximum punishment foreseen, in fact, is much lower than that which our legal system provides for even a minimal restriction of personal freedom, let alone prison”.

In recent weeks alone, numerous brutal tortures of animals have been recorded in Italy, almost always resulting in death. From the kittens skinned in the province of Alessandria and Salerno and to the dogs Aron and Honey from Palermo, the first burned alive while the second was pickaxed and finally thrown in the garbage. Honey is the only one who survived. Now it’s Pati’s turn, a long list of horrors which according to Rizzi finds its explanation in the sense of impunity spread precisely by law 189/04.
Just a few days earlier, Rizzi, candidate in the southern Italian constituency (Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria) for the “Freedom” list, had met the citizens of Catanzaro. “It was a very nice meeting – Rizzi wanted to point out – with so many good and honest people who expressed their concerns to me about the lack of protection of animals and the problems that arise every day. I believe – concluded Enrico Rizzi – that with what happened in Pati we have reached the bottom of the bottom”. Rizzi, during the meeting held in Catanzaro, reported how, in the event of election, he would work in synergy with MEPs sensitive to the issue so that all the countries of the Union could conform with legislation truly worthy of real protection. of animals, both pets and wild ones. The “Freedom” list has among its programmatic points the abolition of intensive farming and research without the use of animals.
