PALERMO – At the moment there is only one suspect for the Casteldaccia massacre. The notice of investigation for multiple manslaughter was notified in these hours by the policemen of the Palermo flying squad to Antonio Di Salvo, one of the owners of the “Quadrifoglio group” of Partinico.
The notice of warranty is signed by the Termini Imerese attorney Ambrogio Cartosio and the deputy Elvira Cuti. On the day of the tragedy Di Salvo was in the United States.
The families of the five dead workers were informed that tomorrow, Thursday 9 May, the autopsies will be performed at the Forensic Medicine office of the Palermo Polyclinic. The tests are entrusted to the medical examiner Stefania Zerbo. “We will appoint one of our consultants”, explains the lawyer Bartolomeo Parrino who assists the family members of one of the victims, Ignazio Giordano from Partinico.
They found their death in the sewage lifting plant Epifanio Alsace, 71 years old, co-owner of the Quadrifoglio Group, the company’s workers Ignazio Giordano57 years old, Giuseppe Miraglia47 years old, Roberto Raneri, 51 years old; Giuseppe La Barbera, 26 years old (temporary worker at Amap).
They would descend into the lifting tank – a room where they were not authorized to work – because they were unable to clear the sewerage system from an obstruction. Suddenly the cap would pop and they would be hit by the killer gas released by the sewage.
Quadrifoglio had intervened as a subcontractor. The workers did not have the necessary equipment. Neither masks nor instruments to detect the presence of gas. Nor the necessary professional skills. They could and had only to purge the manholes on the road.
