Healthcare hiring plan, reinforcements for the “emergency rooms”

VITERBO – There are 47 specialties and professional profiles that will be expanded. The lack of staff is one of the main obstacles that put the brakes on local healthcare. Because if there is a shortage of doctors, nurses and technicians, waiting lists get longer and services within the departments slow down. The completion of Belcolle is also in the home stretch for the Viterbo area: the ribbon cutting is expected by the end of the year. With it, several departments will be moved and expanded, with new beds. Therefore, staff injections are more vital than ever to maintain essential levels of care. From this perspective, the 707 permanent hires announced by the Rocca council are a real godsend.

They are part of the extraordinary plan launched by the Region for the whole of Lazio and which provides for over 8 thousand contracts to be stipulated between Rome and the other four provinces, all in the two-year period 2024/2025. The slice of the pie that will fall to the hospitals of Tuscia is close to 10% of the total and also includes some stabilizations (13 of medical psychologists and another 148 among the operators of the sector, i.e. 91 nurses, 41 social-health workers, an orthoptist, a collaborator technician, 13 laboratory technicians and one from psychiatric rehabilitation).

On a numerical level, the greatest injection of new forces will come precisely from the nurses: in addition to the 91 who are now precarious and who will be stabilized, a further 80 will sign a permanent contract. Followed by the obs: the 41 being stabilized will be joined by another 70.

All figures. But not only the figures of the sector will receive new recruits. There are also dozens of doctors who will be hired, always with permanent contracts. Among the departments that receive particular attention is that of emergency medicine: in the emergency rooms – it happens throughout Italy and Viterbo is no exception – the shortage is such that in recent years healthcare companies have resorted to various tricks in order to maintain the Leah. In Belcolle and in the twin departments of Andosilla of Civita Castellana, Tarquinia and Acquapendente, services are guaranteed only thanks to VAT numbers and doctors provided by cooperatives (with costs for the public coffers much higher than those incurred for employees ). In this department, the Region has allocated 22 new white coats of which 10 – and it is the only professional figure of the 47 involved in the plan – have already been authorized in April. The difficulty of finding new recruits remains a matter in itself: as demonstrated by the various attempts made so far by the Viterbo Local Health Authority to hire emergency room doctors, often unsuccessful, the issue of the “attractiveness” of the permanent position compared to the greater guaranteed earnings remains. from the freelance profession.

Returning to the departments that will benefit from greater hiring, there are general medicine as well as orthopedics and traumatology with 20 places, radiodiagnostics with 22, anesthesia and pain therapy with 15 (in Belcolle, the flaw of the impossibility of painless childbirth weighs heavily due to the lack of anesthetists ), psychiatry with 12, pediatricians with 11, nephrology and general surgery with 8, cardiology with 7. 16 new midwives will also arrive.
