Gran Sasso, the Democratic Party’s cable car fails – L’Aquila

THE EAGLE. «The PD’s proposals on the Gran Sasso are impracticable and contradictory: the replacement of the cable car with an cable car, as classified in the press conference, for example, would not only have exorbitant costs, much higher than the amount allocated for the Scindarella-Fossa connection of Paganica financed for 20 million, but it would face the “Caudine Forks” of environmental constraints that it would certainly not overcome”. He states it Luigi Facciamunicipal councilor with responsibility for mountain policies.
«Constraints to which», notes Faccia, «any intervention on the Gran Sasso is sadly subject. In the Marche region, for example, the TAR rejected the project to replace a ski lift with a chair lift in the Sibillini Park, in SPA and ZSC areas just like ours. Among the reasons are the different characteristics between ski lifts and chair lifts, together with the passenger capacity. Well, the cable car proposed by the Democratic Party would have a greater passenger capacity than the current cable car and on a longer route, the same situation as the Sibillini cable car”.
«The proposals presented by the Democratic Party are also contradictory», continues Faccia, «because they are in contrast with the environmental policies that have always been praised by the left, considering that the idea of building an cable car would have an unprecedented environmental impact, starting from the Simoncelli car park – the subject of a Pnrr loan for redevelopment – with a longer route than the current one. An incomprehensible hypothesis if we consider, moreover, that the Scindarella-Fossa di Paganica connection is already financed and allows us to take advantage of a sustainable alternative to the cable car to reach Campo Imperatore, in addition to the necessary “emergency exit” essential in the event of a storm or blocking the only access route. Contradictory because on the one hand the long time required to replace the ropes is denounced, which the administration has far-sightedly decided to combine with the revision, anticipating the times precisely in order to optimize the interventions, on the other hand an alternative is proposed which would require a stop of at least 2 years, not counting the time for the very probable environmental requirements. In short”, points out Faccia, “one of two things: either we build alternatives to the cable car to reach the heights, ensuring correct use and safety, as is often requested also by the centre-left, or we make the current connection even more exclusive, as would be , concentrating all efforts on the Democratic Party’s cable car hypothesis.”
