She scolds a student who targets his classmate with arrogant attitudes, but finds herself attacked by the young man’s mother. This happens in a school in Ostia, the Amendola-Guttuso comprehensive institute, where a teacher was beaten in the external courtyard of the school in front of the eyes of some colleagues and parents. According to what has been reconstructed so far, the woman is the wife of a member of the Spada clan, the large family of Sinti origin that dominates Ostia and described by the investigations of the Rome Prosecutor’s Office as a mafia-style criminal association. “You can’t afford to scold him, we are from the Spada clan,” she allegedly said before attacking the teacher. After the attack, the teacher called 118 medical staff, although she then refused treatment. The student’s mother has been identified and reported free for violence against a public official, while the teacher has not yet filed a complaint.

Valditara’s announcement

The Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara, intervenes on the matter and announces a visit to the school involved in the next few days. «I will bring my solidarity to the teacher attacked by a member of the Spada clan. No one should be allowed to touch a teacher. The State will make its strength felt against those who do not respect its teachers”, writes the minister on X.

The political reactions

Considering the seriousness of the incident and the involvement of the Spada family, political reactions were not long in coming. Solidarity from the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri, who adds in a note: «It is a very serious episode that must not go unpunished and I am sure that the authorities will shed full light on the matter. Teachers are a pillar for the education of our children who we must protect, without retreating an inch in the face of acts of violence.” Words of sympathy also came from the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, during the opening aperitif of the electoral campaign at the Monk in Rome. Words of condemnation of crime from the vice president of the Senate Marco Centinaio (Lega): «The mafia fears schools, because it rejects the teachings of legality and respect for everyone, not for bullies. Solidarity with the teacher from Ostia who was allegedly attacked by the wife of a member of the Spada clan. We hope that her son chooses the right example to follow.”
