The environmental future of Campania, conference of the former regional councilor Longobardi

“Campania 2030. Forward all together” this is the title of the conference on the environment organized by the former regional councilor Alfonso Longobardi, which will be held on Friday 10 May at 6.30 pm at the Hotel Miramare in Catellammare di Stabia. A meeting which sees the environment and tourism of the Sorrento Coast and in particular the city of Castellammare di Stabia at the center of the debate. Castellammare di Stabia is an Italian municipality with over 66 thousand inhabitants in the metropolitan city of Naples in Campania. This is precisely the city from which the Sorrento Coast comes to life, a loved and sought-after destination not only by Italian travelers but above all by tourists. Tourism is booming thanks above all to the significant movements arriving from the English and American markets, those traditionally most linked to the Sorrento peninsula. In the end, 2023 saw an 8.22 percent jump in both overnight stays and revenue related to the tourist tax. In fact, the sold out has now been recorded continuously since the Easter holidays, the result of a great desire to travel, with demand often exceeding supply, after the Covid period that has hit us. Essential for the whole peninsula and especially for the city of Castellammare di Stabia is the seafront, which has become a symbol of the city itself, it represents an indispensable place for the people of Stabia and for tourists, unfortunately however the stretch of coast of Stabia is not suitable for swimming, however everything is to change. The stretch of sea of Castellammare di Stabia in front of the municipal villa could return to swimming next summer. It has been forbidden to bathe for over 40 years but the people of Stabia hope to be able to have it available for bathing next year. This will occur thanks to the completion of the Gragnao-Castellammare collector, in fact there are only 800 meters left to reach a goal of amazing environmental proportions. “Excellent news on the environmental front for our territory, this stretch of coast will finally be swimmable again, a promise I made in 2017 when the blocked construction site concerning the last stretch to be completed, approximately 800 metres, of the collector was officially handed over to Gori Gragnano – Castellammare di Stabia. This is a very important infrastructural work which will have to serve and bring to the final purification destination the entire sewerage network of the Lattari Mountains – explained Alfonso Longobardi – Extraordinary and positive news, I had publicly made this commitment to restart a fundamental work. Works like this must be implemented to put an end to the environmental havoc perpetrated for years to the detriment of the environment and public health. Only by guaranteeing the protection of the territory can we plan a true socio-economic relaunch and the redemption of entire communities that have been humiliated and put at risk for too long” The event will be attended by Vincenzo Liguori, owner of the Hotel Miramare, and Catello Filosa of the Green Protection Association. biodiversity museum”, Francesco Robust of the ANPANA OEPA Environmental Guards. The meeting will be moderated by Franco Buononato, from Il Mattino.
