Autopsies were carried out yesterday on the bodies of Laura Lupo and Pietro Delia, the two victims of the murder-suicide which occurred last Saturday in an apartment on the third floor in Via Notarbartolo. Yesterday, at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the Polyclinic, an autopsy was performed on the body of the 66-year-old accountant, who was apparently killed by his wife, a traffic policeman, with her service pistol, probably for reasons linked to jealousy: today instead, it will be the turn of the analysis that will be carried out on the woman’s body and then both bodies will be returned to the family to allow the funeral to be held, scheduled for this week.
It wasn’t a tantrum
According to what Il Giornale di Sicilia writes, the investigators’ hypothesis is that the tragedy was not the result of a fit of anger or a sudden argument between the two spouses but that the dramatic conclusion may have been intentional because the inspector of the municipal police allegedly shot at Delia without him having had time to react in any way.
Inside the house, in fact, there would be no signs pointing in this direction: no object was found out of place except in the kitchen, the place where the drama took place and where six shell casings were recovered. Even in the other rooms there would be no elements that could suggest that there had been a desperate attempt to escape or to try in some way to avoid the blows by the husband. And then there would also be another aspect to support the supposition that Laura Lupo had already decided to make fire, perhaps overwhelmed by a feeling of jealousy that would slowly become unbearable.
The sentimental situation
A crime, and the following suicide, which therefore could have been committed in the throes of a sort of fit due to a delicate sentimental situation. Some friends and colleagues, albeit in whispers, spoke of a marital crisis and tensions in the couple who had been back together for a year and a half after more than three years of separation: those who knew them said that she, recently, seemed troubled for something that had happened.
