Valtiberina Tuscany towards the vote, four municipalities called to the polls

Four municipalities in the Tiber Valley will be called to the polls on 8 and 9 June: Badia Tedalda, Monterchi, Pieve Santo Stefano and Sestino. The first outgoing citizens all try again, with some innovations and solid confirmations in the lists. These are the days of bureaucracy, those in which the lists must be closed and filed in a very specific period of time: between Friday and midday on Saturday 11 May. A well-defined scenario presents itself, with the sole exception of Sestino where – barring twists and turns – there will once again be, just like five years ago, only one list and it is the one supported by Franco Dori. However, let’s follow the alphabetical order. We start from Badia Tedalda. Alberto Santucci will take the field again and with him also his team: in case of re-election it will be his third consecutive mandate, but even the fifth overall; in fact, from 1999 to today, the Santucci Government was interrupted only in 2009 by Fabrizio Giovannini where Santucci was still the deputy. On the other side there is a new entry in local politics, even if he has experience in the matter. The candidate of “Badia in Comune” is called Telio Barbieri, originally from the province of Grosseto, although once he retired as an insurer he came to live in Badia Tedalda, his wife’s town of origin. In the last political elections, those of September 2022, Barbieri was a candidate for the Chamber of Deputies with the Greens-Italian Left. The electoral campaign has already begun for both, with a series of meetings in the hamlets. Moving on to Monterchi, however, the outgoing mayor Alfredo Romanelli was the first to have dissolved the reservations in Valtiberina by launching the third mandate with the Together for Monterchi list, confirming a large part of the team. On the other hand, exactly one week later, Viva Monterchi Viva instead played the card of Massimo Bruschi who has been the opposition group leader for the last five years. Moving on to Pieve Santo Stefano, however, Claudio Marcelli launched the encore card, saving time and already presenting to the population all the candidates on the Insieme per Pieve list. All this happened on Sunday evening at the Papini Theatre. On Tuesday, in the premises of the Ex Asilo Umberto I, it was the turn of the Pieve in Comune civic list which supports Christian Bergamaschi’s candidacy for mayor. Then there is Sestino, the last strip of Tuscany, which barring last-minute twists and turns will have – exactly like five years ago – only one list filed: that of the outgoing mayor Franco Dori who has moved well in his first experience with the tricolor band. Analyzing the numbers, therefore, the Tiber Valley is called to the polls in four Municipalities with a potential of 80 candidates who will make up the lists (in the hypothesis that Sestino also has a second list, ed.) and the possibility of going in continuity with the outgoing mayors, but also a complete renewal. The engines are warmed up, therefore, in particular to know the names present.
