CARPI – ‘Classical music’ it is neither classical nor elitist cultured. On the contrary, it is a living and vital heritage, unpredictable, exciting, shocking, created by men and women who had the same needs that we also have today, in 2024: laughing, crying, dancing, having fun, expressing their feelings and also talk about politics and the society of their time. About this, from May 12th, in Carpi there will be one more opportunity to discover, or rediscover, all the relevance, power and enchantment of classical music as a heritage of everyone and for everyone: at the Circolo Arcobaleno of Santa Croce will in fact go on stage Then she will be classicreview of three concert lessons by Ensemble Concordanzecomposed of a group of musicians from Bologna born in 2009 with the aim of bringing music to prisons and psychiatric communities, and which is dedicated to spreading musical knowledge, and above all to transmitting the love for the art of sounds, through presentation of the pieces with a simple and even witty language, without renouncing to disseminate with scientific integrity, creating a free and aware listening that puts performers and listeners on an equal footing, with the assumption that concerts are not a worldly ritual but an opportunity to stay Together.

The appointments, free and open to the public of all agesare promoted by ARCI, in collaboration with ‘I violent rainfall’ and with the support of Fondazione CR Carpi. The series of meetings will be dedicated to one of the most “pop” composers in history: Felix Mendelssohnthe author of the famous ‘Wedding March’, which everyone has listened to thousands of times. Few have been able to combine cultural depth and listening pleasure as this genius of German romanticism managed to do. To kick off the concert lessons, which will all begin at 11.00 amwill be, Sunday 12 May, But where do you want to go without Beethoven?dedicated to the relationship between Mendelssohn and Beethoven, an essential composer for any 19th century artist.

Sunday 23 June instead it will be the time of the second appointment, Athens, Scotland, Italy, or three legendary and irresistible symphonic pages by Mendelssohn – Overture from the incidental music for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Opus 21, Overture “Die Hebriden” Opus 26, Symphony in A Major “Italian” Opus 90 – presented in world premiere transcriptions for nine instruments by Concordanze. The grand finale, Sunday 14 Julyby title Sister and brother, it will instead be dedicated to Fanny Hensel Mendelssohn: if he had we would speak of Felix but of his sister, Fanny, as one of the cornerstones of 19th century music. In this concert, to the tune of the string quartet, the audience will be led to discover the bond that united them throughout their lives, essential for the biography of both.

This is the comment of Mattia Cipolli, musician of Ensemble Concordanze: “We are happy to bring great classical music to Carpi too. Concordanze was born with the aim of making it resonate where it is most difficult to reach, that is, in spaces such as prisons and psychiatric facilities. Alongside this, which is and remains our main activity, there are meetings with the traditional public, so to speak, which we care about both for the great and enthusiastic participation we experience and because, in doing so, we have the opportunity to give back even outside the purpose for which we make music in places that, however, are not open. We like to think that the power of classical music, with the same songs and stories that we carry inside and outside of prison, can represent a sort of bridge between two realities, that of those who are outside and those who, instead, are locked up, who should talk much more than is the case. The strength of art allows us to try to build a bridge, to establish a sort of communication, however complex: the ears that listen to the beauty of a great song, the hearts that get excited, the blood that pulsates in the veins to the rhythm of the bows, they are the same. On this side and beyond a row of bars, or a locked door.”
