Cesena, the Giro d’Italia returns on May 17th: how traffic conditions are changing

The Giro d’Italia returns to Cesena on the occasion of the passage of the thirteenth stage of the Giro d’Italia, starting from Riccione and arriving in Cento. The great sporting event will affect the city on the morning of Friday 17 May when the runners and the whole caravan will travel along the Strada Statale 9 – via Emilia up to Faenza, and then continue in the direction of Bagnacavallo, Lugo and Conselice, until arriving in Cento, the city of arrival.

As on any other pink occasion, the professional race will be preceded by the festive passage of the advertising caravan made up of 30 vehicles that will stop for approximately 20 minutes between Via Cesare Battisti, IV Novembre and the Risorgimento Bridgewhere they will entertain all those present and two-wheel enthusiasts with music, games and various activities (including the distribution of gadgets).

All the changes that will be in force on the occasion of the transition were established following meetings held with the Prefecture. The caravan will arrive from Riccione on the SS 9 state road – via Emilia, passing the roundabout at the intersection between via Ruffio and Case Missiroli and will continue on the same road. The other streets affected by the city route of the pink caravan will be: viale Guglielmo Marconi, viale Guglielmo Oberdan, viale Giovanni Bovio, Europa, Zuccherificio, Ponte del Risorgimento, G. Matteotti, Carlo Cattaneo and Emilia Ponente.

The advertising caravan, which will be made up of around 30 vehicles, will arrive in the city around 12.15pm and then stop in the Ponte Nuovo area until 1pm. The passage of the professionals is expected around 1.50pm – with an expected exit from the area by the last athlete at 2.07pm. All the vehicles serving the teams and the organization will pass between the advertising caravan and the passage of the professionals, including the technical escort serving the cycling caravan. The last athlete will be followed by the closing vehicle of the procession, whose passage will mark the conclusion of the event in the city.

The road system

To allow the passage of the Giro D’Italia caravan to proceed smoothly and safely during the morning of Friday 17 May, the road system will be temporarily modified from 11.30 am to 2.15 pm. Specifically, from 11.15am to 2.30pm the southbound carriageway of the SS726 Cesena ring road (ring road) will be closed from Ponte Pietra until the end of the SS726 ring road with mandatory exit at junction 2 and simultaneous closure of the related entrance towards the south. At the same time, from 11.30 am to 3.00 pm the exit ramps from the SS 3 Bis Tiberina (E45) of Cesena Ovest will be closed in both directions. The motorway will not be affected by any changes for this reason it is recommended for travel from Cesena to other cities in both directions.
