Important step forward for the conclusion of the works of Third Megalotto from the Jonica State Road (SS 106 Aranto-Reggio Calabria) which Webuild is building on behalf of ANAS (FS Italiane Group). On May 10th the last diaphragm will be knocked down in the northbound tube of the natural tunnel Rose Garden 1approximately 1,200 meters long and double-barreled in each direction.
The Third Megalotto it is the main intervention planned along the Calabrian route of the Jonica State Road and is strategic for connecting the Ionian coasts of Calabria, Basilicata And Puglia. Once completed, the work will join the A14 motorway axes And A2 improving the accessibility of numerous coastal municipalities, with benefits in terms of travel times and road safety.
The project, started in May 2020, today it employs around 1,200 peoplebetween direct and third-party personnel, with the involvement of over a production chain from the start of the works 880 businesses (mostly from Southern Italy). The work is one of the 19 infrastructure projects that Webuild is implementing in the South, for a value of around 13 billion euros in the award, and which will contribute to providing the South with modern and sustainable works, such as the high-speed train which, after the deals with Naples-Bariis destined to arrive in Calabriaand to the high capacity on the director Palermo-Catania-Messina. These Webuild projects currently employ 5,450 people, including direct and third-party personnel, and have involved a supply chain of 4,300 companies since the start of the works.
In recent weeks, the first two courses for construction site operators began in Calabria for 45 young and unemployed people from the region, inaugurated in the presence of the president of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto and Pietro Salini, Webuild CEO, as part of the program “Cantiere Lavoro Italia” by Webuild, which plans to hire 10 thousand people by 2026, of which over 80% in Southern Italy.
