Cycling, 60 years of the “Testi Cicli” team: recognition from the Municipality of Perugia

CORCIANO (Perugia) – Sixty years ago, in 1964, thanks to the passion and sacrifices of Luigi Testi, the “GS Olmo Perugia” cycling team was born. The name comes from the Olmo area in the municipality of Perugia where Luigi Testi founded his historic bicycle shop after the war. The first member of the newly formed cycling team was the athlete Sergio Paolucci.

Affiliated to the Italian Cycling Federation and recognized as an Amateur Sports Association by Coni and Sport e Salute, since 1993 the team has changed its name to “Asd Gs Testi Cicli” maintaining the values that have been handed down for three generations: after Luigi, Franco and Matteo.
On Tuesday 7 May 2024 Franco Testi was received by the mayor of Perugia Andrea Romizi who gave him a certificate of recognition and congratulations. The parchment reads: “The sincere appreciation of the City of Perugia for these sixty years of tradition, history and stories, commitment and exhilarating satisfactions, a long journey undertaken with great enthusiasm and with the vision of an ever new and more important goal that we hope he will achieve.”
There are more than eighty members of the Testi Cicli team who are divided into the Mountain Bike and Enduro specialties and the national Mediofondo and Granfondo road races.
In 2020 the operational headquarters moved from Olmo to San Mariano di Corciano.
Over the years, the Testi Cicli team has achieved important goals including three Downhill Master MTB world championships as well as dozens of European, national and regional first places obtained in the various specialties into which the many members are divided. Last March the team organized the first “gravel” race in Umbria, a discipline that combines elements of road cycling and mountain biking.
