PALERMO – The prototype of the below deck accessibility system for the Ourdream vessel has been delivered. People in wheelchairs will be able to move inside the “Our Dream” boat, an asset confiscated from the mafia and handed over last year to the Naval League of Palermo.

The initiative

The prototype falls within the scope of the project promoted by the Order of Engineers of Palermo which involved students from the industrial design faculty of the University of Palermo to develop some projects to make the boat suitable for people with disabilities. The works were coordinated by professors Marannano and Mancuso. The project was presented by the Lni national councilor Giuseppe Tisci and by the president Lni Palermo Nicola Vitello.

A sail was also delivered, made by the Malta Sail Factory sailmaker, and donated to the flagship boat Our Dream by the sponsors who joined this initiative to support disabled children.

“The sea accessible to all”

“Our dream of making the sea accessible to everyone through sailing boats – said Vincenzo Di Dio – has taken a big step forward thanks to the many professionals and friends who believed and invested in our project.”

“We engineers are used to seeing our projects realized and this had a truly particular value for us. We thank everyone for their participation and the sponsors who shared our dreams and the tenacity to achieve what seems impossible.”

Those in attendance

Rosy Pennino spoke (Councillor for Social Policies) Vincenzo Gueccia (Veg Motors Palermo) Vincenzo Picardi (Honda Italy) Roberta Cascio (Vice President Cip Sicilia) Daniele Bertorotta (Malta Sail Factory) Vincent of God (order of engineers of Palermo) Francesco Scalici (L2F Technology).
