Stefano Graziano and Gennaro Oliviero

They will march man-to-man in the Democratic Party at the Aversa municipal elections. The pro tempore leader Eugenio Marino and the provincial commissioner Susanna Camusso have asked the groups that refer to Stefano Graziano and Gennaro Oliviero to equally shoulder the burden of composing the Dem list in support of the aspiring mayor Mauro Baldascino. Twelve candidates belong to the deputy’s area, as many as to the president of the regional council of Campania. At Graziano the focus is on some of the outgoing directors. The former councilors Marco Girone and Elena Caterino and the former councilor Vincenzo Angelino will be present. In Oliviero’s camp the faithful Raffaele Di Lauro, Mario Romano and Francesco Del Franco will wear the jersey. Excellent names, but the helmsman of the Campania parliament knows well that to win a few seats in the assizes you need big shots. Hence the involvement of Paolo Santulli and Carmine Palmiero. The contribution of the two outgoing directors should be an indirect one, in the sense that they will not be on the list themselves because the presence of candidates who sent Alfonso Golia home would be rejected out of hand by the mayor’s movement. The Politics That Serves has placed a mandatory preliminary ruling: “The lists must not include any of those who contributed in a decisive way to the early dissolution of the council”. It’s the least. Goliath could not suffer another slap from those who prevented him from completing his mandate. To get around the obstacle Oliviero asked Santulli and Palmiero to indicate two names each to be included in the Dem list. It is not excluded that their relatives, two males and two females, will run. It changes little. If it’s not soup it’s wet bread. To put it bluntly, it would be a mockery of Goliath and company. Santulli and Palmiero would pull the strings from behind the scenes. A setback for the former mayor. Will the Politics You Need stick its head in the sand? It is unlikely. But you never know. In the last 15 days, everything and more has happened in the center-left. Useful material for a Bunuel film. Oliviero is also contributing to the composition of the Aversa Progressista list. Imma Dello Iacono, Antonio Romano and Nicola Vargas, former deputy head of the Moscati emergency room, now head of the Avellino hospital, should run as candidates for the president of the regional council. Four other names will be given by former mayor Lello Ferrara, Baldascino’s number one sponsor. The latest “fixes” could strongly weaken Eugenia D’Angelo’s list which she hoped to draw from both Oliviero’s and Ferrara’s worlds. But, for a change, the problem to be resolved is once again in Elly Schlein’s party. If Oliviero throws Santulli and Palmiero into the fray, in disguise, a big crack could open up in the coalition. Goliath and his men would raise the barricades. And the honeymoon in the center-left could last very little. We wouldn’t want to be in Baldascino’s shoes.
