On Friday 10 May, at 11 am, in the Bandiere hall of Palazzo Zanca, the press conference will be held to present the outcome of the work of the “Science Fiction Economics Residency”, the lecture held at the Horcynus Orca Park in Capo Peloro, organized by the Foundation Messina with the patronage of the Municipality of Messina and in collaboration with Edgeryders and Climate Gains. The meeting, attended by the mayor Federico Basile, will be attended by the councilor for social policies Alessandra Calafiore; Gaetano Giunta Founder of the Messina Foundation, Giacomo Pinaffo General Secretary of the Messina Foundation, and Nadia Alter co-founder of Edgeriders and Climate Gain.
The Residency, launched last Monday 6th, with a lectio magistralis by Professor Ha Joon Chang, professor of development economics in London, involved around twenty economists, sociologists, policy makers, writers, artists to start a reflection on a scenario of science fiction which, starting from real data on the current level of energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in the Messina area, outlines a near future based on economic models capable of allowing the city to respect the Paris agreements to limit global warming and compatible with the concepts of social justice and environmental sustainability.
The appointment with journalists will be an opportunity to illustrate a mix of alternative economic models and fiction with the awareness that a more sustainable and fair future is not only possible, as some of the most advanced contemporary economic theories claim, but perhaps easier to achieve , if you imagine, telling a story.
