The Lombardy Region has recently adopted a significant measure in its commitment against Hepatitis C, one of the most serious and widely neglected liver diseases. A motion, led by councilor Claudia Carzeri and supported unanimously by the Regional Council, marked a turning point, directing concrete actions for the improvement of health policies regarding the tracing and treatment of Hepatitis C.
An Expanded and Supported Commitment
The initiative provides for a significant expansion of the age of the population subjected to free screening, extending it to those born between 1948 and 1968. This extension is supported by an investment of 13 million euros received from the national fund of 71.5 million euro allocated to such health campaigns, which ensures that the implementation of this measure will not lead to additional burdens on the regional budget.
Local Involvement for Greater Efficiency
To further increase the effectiveness of this campaign, the motion promotes close collaboration with pharmacies and general practitioners. The objective is to facilitate access to screening, encouraging citizens to undergo tests directly at primary care points. This strategy not only increases adherence but also raises awareness of the relevance of such checks for the prevention of severe complications, such as liver cancer.
A Broad Consensus for Better Public Health
The adoption of the motion is not only a step forward in the treatment of Hepatitis C, but also an example of transversal and unitary health policy. Councilor Carzeri, together with fellow councilors Bestetti and Casati and the President of the Health Commission, Patrizia Baffi, received vast transversal support for this project, highlighting the importance and urgency of effective interventions in the prevention of infectious diseases. The fight against Hepatitis C in Lombardy is strengthening, projecting the region as a model of responsibility and innovation in the field of public health.
