It doesn’t improve the situation of mothers in Sardinia and Sassari. The Island maintains 16th position in Save the Children’s Mother’s Index, an indicator that analyzes the well-being of mothers considering rights, available services, economic and social conditions.
The report “Le Equilibriste – Motherhood in Italy 2024” rejects the Island, which maintained the same position as the previous year, confirming itself as one of the regions with the lowest fertility and with poor female involvement in politicsplacing nineteenth for representation in political bodies.
In the health sector, the Sardinian region ranks ninth, considering the infant mortality rate and the availability of public and private healthcare facilities accredited for consultancy services, even if it recorded a drop of three positions compared to the previous year. In Sardinia, as regards the offer of reception, care, play and sharing spaces, dedicated to parents and children between 0 and 6 years old, of the Save The Children’s Spazio Mamme programme, one is active in Sassari and in Italy there are a total of 13. In addition to the province of Northern Sardinia they are also found in Turin, Milan, Genoa, Rome, Naples, Bari, Brindisi, San Luca (RC), Palermo, Catania.
