Lombardy, post offices become “the home of digital services”

In Bastida Pancarana, with just under a thousand inhabitants in the Oltrepò Pavese, the post office is increasingly becoming a point of reference for the local community. Here, over the years, historic businesses have closed and many other services have disappeared. The newspaper Il Giorno told in an article the history of this post office, as well as that of the post office in nearby Forcola: “Here there is only a bar, a grocery store and the parish left – said the director, Marilena Chillè, per day – then there’s us, who offer services that would otherwise be impossible to have in the area”.

Polis in Lombardy

The newspaper highlights the beautiful reality of these garrisons in isolated towns, at risk of depopulation, which instead continue to offer their precious contribution, also thanks to the Polis Project of Poste Italiane, designed to make post offices in municipalities with less than 15 thousand inhabitants the Casa dei Servizi Digitali and which proceeds – we read in the article – with the aim of creating one-stop shops to make access to public administration services simple and fast. And so, from pension and judicial certificates to registry practices, up to the request for a passport and electronic identity card, this ambitious and successful project by Poste Italiane, financed with funds linked to the Pnrr, will make it possible to give a new face to the 7,000 offices post offices in small towns in Italy, of which 1,290 in Lombardy.

The words of CEO Del Fante

The article of the day explains that, to date, 213 post offices in Lombardy have already been completely redeveloped and another 400 will be redeveloped by the end of the year. Then, here are published the significant statements of the CEO of Poste Italiane Matteo Del Fante, who, on the occasion of a recent hearing in the Transport Committee of the Chamber, declared that “Since 2017, the presence of Poste Italiane in the territory has remained intact” . A plan that therefore goes against the tide of a progressive dismantling of services in small municipalities and in the peripheral neighborhoods of cities.

The post office evolves in Lombardy

The piece highlights how post offices, however, are evolving rapidly, so much so that today, even in small towns, they include shared work spaces dedicated to organisations, companies and freelancers. In Lombardy the branch in Gavirate, in the Varese area, is already open, while the branch in Manerbio (Brescia) and Milan, in via Cordusio will soon open. Work is also nearing completion in Lodi, Opera (Milan) and Merate, in the Lecco area.
