TRIESTE – The recent news in Trieste has revealed a disturbing scenario: aescalation of violence linked to youth crime, which is increasingly aggressive and determined. A phenomenon which, according to the authorities, does not even spare the use of unconventional weaponssuch as hammers, sting sprays and kitchen knives.
The words of the Police Commissioner Pietro Ostuni
We had the opportunity to discuss the situation with the Police Commissioner of Trieste, Pietro Ostuni, during the event “Actors of Legality“, which involved over 600 secondary school students. Ostuni confirmed the maximum attention dedicated to the issue, underlining how the city has changed over the years due to the influx of new residents.
Speaking of the offensive tools used, the Commissioner highlighted the widespread use of knives, mainly of domestic type, and common tools such as the hammer, easily available in hardware stores. Pepper spray, accessible to the public, was also mentioned among the tools used by youth crime.
Commitment from the authorities and concrete solutions
While acknowledging the problem, Ostuni assured that the police they are doing an effective job in combating these criminal phenomena. Although not officially confirmed, it appears that the perpetrators of the latest crimes have been identified and will soon be made known to the public. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the measures taken by local authorities in ensuring the safety of the community.
The importance of legality education
In addition to actions to combat crime, Ostuni underlined the importance of events such as the meeting with students at the Rossetti theatre. These initiatives are fundamental for explaining to young people the meaning of legality and rules, promoting a climate of peaceful and respectful coexistence.
