There isn’t even time to rejoice over the dismantling of the construction site on the A9 motorway between Como and Switzerland before the border road system is already in danger of going haywire. The cause is the long weekend which officially begins tomorrow Thursday 9th May with the Ascension Day in Switzerland, a moment which already traditionally leads many citizens of the Confederation to travel towards Como and Italy but which this year seems to have already triggered particularly massive traffic (here are all the other dates at risk of traffic jams). In fact, on the Swiss A2 motorway, there are clear first signs of an authentic exodus towards the South, with queues and severe slowdowns as reported by the traffic information of the Swiss Touring Club. Columns of cars at walking pace have already formed close to Monte Ceneri, with the activation of various traffic lights for traffic management (Dosso di Taverne, Collina d’Oro and San Salvatore). Tomorrow, Thursday 9 May, the key day for travel in the border area towards Italy and as always also in the city, where many Swiss spend Ascension Day shopping and having fun.
