The Imola circuit will see major changes to its escape routes for this year’s Formula 1 Grand Prix, scheduled for May 17-19. In particular, the asphalt surface in the run-off area of Curva Piratella (Curve 9) will be removed and replaced with gravel, a change which aims to improve safety by increasing the ability of cars to stop in the event of going off the track.
Further adjustments to the Imola curves
A similar treatment is also planned for the Gresini Curves (Curves 14-15), where the asphalt will be completely replaced by gravel. Furthermore, the Mineral Waters (Curves 11-13) will see a reduction in asphalt escape routes in favor of greater use of gravel. These changes are part of an ongoing effort to ensure greater safety for pilots, but also to increase the technical challenges. Some off-piste constraints, see Magnussen in Miami, will be impossible without asphalt…
