VITERBO – We receive from Francesco Buzzi – City Councilor of Viterbo Delegation for Animal Welfare – President of the 2nd Council Commission on Budget, Economic Development, Heritage, Industry, Crafts, Agriculture, Commerce and Tourism and we publish: “I welcome the reactivation of the political debate on the kennel park . A debate which, as reiterated several times, must move to the regional front: without modification of the DGR 866-2006, in fact, it is not possible to have the kennel park, understood as a place where respect for the ethological needs of the species exists, ensuring the movement and socialisation, capable of encouraging attendance also through social activities.
Following my statement at the end of January, the Italia Viva group presented an amendment to the regional law of 21 October 1997 to the Lazio region. 34 “protection of pet animals and prevention of strays” to encourage the creation of kennel parks, a very sensitive topic in our area, and in recent days various parties and candidates for the next European elections have released press releases and initiatives on the topic.
I hope, given this important act presented in the Region, a convergence of all political forces and an active collaboration of our local representatives to arrive at the modification and conclusion of the approval process. Otherwise, we would risk generating false illusions among citizens who have been waiting for concrete measures on the subject for some time, which establish the structural and management requirements of these reception sites, eliminating for example the obligation to floor the boxes with washable and disinfectable surfaces, which in the time joint, muscular and bone problems, as well as a waste of large quantities of water, in favor of the use of gravel and sand.
A modification in this sense would allow the municipal kennel of Viterbo in Strada Novepani to last a long time, inserted in a unique landscape context, which would not require large expenditures to bring it up to standard, guaranteeing for the unfortunate dogs, for whom it was not possible to find family, a very valid ethological and environmental settlement. All this without losing sight of the campaign against stray dogs and adoption activities, to significantly reduce the number of dogs hosted in these facilities with the hope that they will be an animal emergency room and not the permanent residence”.
