The graphic novel unfolds in a dramatic period for the Venice of the 16th century century, after the tragic battle of Lepanto and during the crisis of the Serenissima Republic of Doge Alvise Mocenigo, hit by the most serious plague epidemic known up to then. Joaquin Salazar, plague doctor, is about to go to fulfill his duty accompanied by his beloved wife on the sea. He doesn’t know that fate will put him in front of one of the highest moral dilemmas: following the principles of work and law and denying the values that make you a man, or remain faithful to one’s oaths?

If there are many comics in which the drawings tend to accompany the dialogues, here the exact opposite is true, Stefano Obino’s watercolor conveys an atmosphere, a state of mind, a revelation with brilliant immediacyand this happens both in the wide-ranging tables, perhaps with a maritime background, and for the details of an expression, a face, an object, which can say more about that character than entire written pages.

I am truly thrilled at the idea of presenting my latest work in Veneto and in particular in Venice, where I set the story of my new book”, Obino says: «Bartolomeo Salazar’s two graphic novels are born from the project of creating a network of Lazzaretti dItalypromoted by Sant. cooperativeElijah 2003 which manages the Lazzaretto of Cagliari, and it is precisely from Cagliari, the Sardinian city where I live and work, that the story begins, to arrive at the lagoon city with a leap back in time of about 400 years. It will be wonderful and I can’t see ittime to see Venice again and maybe be able to paint again in the streets and views of the most beautiful city in the world”
