Photographic art and classical music come together in a unique and exciting experience in the new exhibition “Istanti di Classica”, which will open its doors on May 12, 2024 at 6:00 pm at Patrizia Genovesi’s Open Studio Gallery in Rome. This event marks a meeting point between the visions of two talented photographers, Massimo Bottarelli and Alberto Placidoli, under the artistic direction of Patrizia Genovesi, a key figure in the intersection between visual art and music.

The art of capturing music through the lens

The exhibition features over fifty photographs depicting three eminent figures from the world of classical music: the conductor Marco Attura, the Japanese pianist Ai Watanabe, and the Ukrainian organist Tetyana Rivis. The images expose moments of daily life and artistic performances, offering an intimate look at these musicians. Bottarelli and Placidoli followed their subjects for several years, documenting their art with a passion and precision that clearly shines through in every shot.

Patrizia Genovesi describes in the introductory text to the exhibition catalog how Alberto and Massimo’s photographs transcend simple visual representation, transforming the camera into a tool for profound and personal exploration. This project not only highlights the photographers’ technical mastery, but also celebrates their ability to penetrate beyond the surface, capturing the very essence of the musicians portrayed.

A dialogue between music and image

The exhibition is supported by the VIII Municipality of Rome Capital and sees the collaboration of entities such as Officine Fotografie and Foto Sciamanna, underlining the importance of community and collaboration in the artistic field. The opening event will see the presence of Marco Attura and Ai Watanabe, while the finissage, scheduled for May 31st, will be enhanced by a performance by the Ars Nova Choir with Tetyana Rivis on the piano.

Genovesi’s artistic vision, which has accompanied photography and music since his childhood, emerges in this project with a strength and clarity that invites the audience into a unique sensorial immersion. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see how music can be interpreted and experienced through another medium, enriching the experience of those who participate.
